Critical Creative Reflection

Image
Hey Everyone! I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. Today’s blog is my second ever Creative Critical Reflection (CCR). My product challenges conventions in several ways. Perhaps the most major of these is a lack of dancing. Pretty much every music video we found included dancing of some sort. Unfortunately, of the four of us were all hopeless, none of us knew how to dance. Instead we chose to do simple fun activities like sports and video games that would fit well with the upbeat music. This isn’t completely unheard of, but it does go against what’s usually seen in an upbeat rock music video. When we made our music video we were not originally thinking about representation of social groups or issues. Despite this our video does to an extent represent groups of people who enjoy this genre of music, or even just people who are active and enjoy doing things like the activities in the video. The song itself can also represent people who feel repressed with simple phrase...

Hey everyone! I’m Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. This was another exiting project with ups and downs. I was definitely frustrating working with my group. Despite this, I enjoyed working with them again and making this music video. Enjoy!

Production Blog: Second Day of Editing for my Music Video

Image
Hey everyone! I’m Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. Most recently my group and I have once again done the editing for our music video in class. Earlier today, Daniel, Rhys, and I all arrived to class of time. On top of that, Rhys remembered to bring his computer. As soon as class started, we got to work. Rhys opened up his laptop, and this time, DaVinci Resolve opened right up without issue. We got started by adding more clips. We also arranged these and cut them down. After that, we talked about how we would edit the rest. Rhys was having second thoughts about the record player scene at the beginning. He said that it wouldn't make sense to have a record player and instruments. I argued that music videos don't have to make perfect sense or have perfect continuity. It's better to do something that will stick in people's heads every time they hear the song. Unfortunately, we soon discovered that my fears had been realized. There was not enough footage. To ...

Production Blog: Editing for my Music Video

Image
Hey everyone! I’m Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. Me and my group tried to organize a day to edit our video. Unfortunately, none of our schedules aligned. We then decided we'd do the editing at school. At first, this also didn't work out. Rhys forgot to bring his laptop the day we planned on editing. Finally, the next class, Daniel, Rhys, and I were all there, and Rhys had brought his laptop. Unfortunately, Lucas is in different class period from us, so he was unable to help edit. We were then able to begin editing. Rhys turned on his laptop and went to DaVinci Resolve, the editing program, but it needed an update. After a few minutes we were finally able to get started. Rhys was the one on the computer, because he has the most experience with this program. Rhys inserted the clips one by one, while me and Daniel suggested the order. At first I was worried that we would not have enough footage to meet the time requirement. This was mainly because we didn't ...

Production blog: Group Conflict

Image
Hey everyone! I’m Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. Throughout the past few days of working me and my group have had continuous arguments that gave slowed us down. First off, most of us felt like our groupmates weren't pulling their weight. In the very beginning when we were doing the storyboard, Daniel and I felt that Rhys wasn't doing his fair share of work. When we were doing the group blogs, I made a mistake that Daniel was very upset about, and understandably so. I did the group blog I was supposed to, and submitted it, but I forgot to send it to the others. Daniels grade suffered because of this. At the same time, I was upset at Daniel. At least in my opinion, Daniel has a terrible work ethic. He is always lazy, puts in the bare minimum effort, and doesn't seem to care about his grade. Despite all these issues, we did get through the planning part of the project. During filming, we argued, but it wasn't quite as bad as before. This time it was mos...

Second Day of Filming Production Blog

Image
Hey everyone! I’m Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. Leading up to the filming the four of us were discussing what we were going to do. Daniel didn't really want us over and said he could try to do these scenes on his own. Despite this, I insisted that we all go over to film. The next day of filming at Daniel's house, we picked up where we left off. We started off the second day with another small scene, spikeball. This was a game that only Daniel was familiar with. I filmed Daniel and Rhys play the game. Ultimately, Daniel and Rhys thought my filming wasn't quite right, but we decided to use the clip anyway. After filming the scene, we took a small break and played for a few minutes. The final thing we filmed was the arcade basketball. Once again, I filmed Rhys and Daniel playing the game. This time the two of them were happy with the final product. After arcade basketball, Lucas had to go again. Rhys, Daniel, and I then went inside. We decided to film a sce...

Filming at Daniel's House Production Blog

Image
Hey everyone! I’m Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. This time we went over to Daniel's house to film. When I first got there, Rhys and Daniel were already waiting. We ate lunch and waited some more until our groupmate Lucas arrived. I had told Lucas to wear a suit to play the piano, and he had. The piano scene was the first thing we filmed. I directed Rhys on what angles he should film the piano playing at. Immediately after I changed into different clothes for the next scene. We grabbed a ladder and all climbed onto the roof to film me and Rhys playing guitar. We both had to fake it, because neither of us knew how. After getting down from the roof and putting the ladder away, we had to get the ladder and go back up because I forgot my glasses on the roof. After we got back down, we walked out about a block to film the bike scene. We filmed this two different ways. The first was a flyby, while the second was more like a tracking shot. The final scene we did was the ...

Planning and Preparation Production Blog for my Music Video

Image
Hey everyone! I’m Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. Once again, a lot of work went into preparing me and my group for our filming. This time it was much easier to find a place to film. From the beginning we agreed on filming at Daniel's house. The house has a large yard, a pool, and a flat roof which will be essential for our video. The house also had a piano, which would be very difficult to transport. We also decided that we may film other parts of the video in other places or on other days. For example, I said we should film the soccer part of our video separately, and we may need an extra day to film the main part of the video. Another part of planning and preparation that is once again essential is our props and costumes. We will all need swimsuits and a t-shirt and shorts. On top of this, I told Lucas that he will need to bring a suit for the piano scenes. We have already decided that we need the piano, a record player, two guitars, a video console and control...
