Critical Creative Reflection

Image
Hey Everyone! I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. Todays blog is my Creative Critical Reflection (CCR). My product challenges conventions because of its unique format. A majority of advertisements are very simple, and only attempt to grab attention. My product is challenging this by existing in a story-like format. The main audience watching a commercial like this would be anyone watching TV. This commercial would most likely also specifically air on sports or boxing channels. This would be to reach an audience that is interested in the product. It would be engaging them by the nature of the product as a sports drink. This would be distributed as a real media text in magazine format. This would contain many of the same main points, but would be more informative and less story based. My production skills have improved greatly throughout this process. At first, though I was interested in it, I had very little knowledge about filmmaking. As time went on I learned ma...

Project Blog

Image
Hey everyone! I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. This is the final commercial we have produced. I started this project in late September, and since then me and my team have been working towards this. It has taken about a month in total to get to this point. Throughout this process things were not easy, but I am proud of the final product. Despite this, there are things that could have been improved upon. First of all, there are things that could have been made clearer. We included a pan in the commercial, but it is hard to notice. A lot of this may have come down to camerawork that needs improving. With some work, I think me and my teammates be much better at showing exactly what we intended. Another thing that could have been improved upon was the acting. While it is separate from filming and editing, acting is still something of great significance. I feel as if we neglected acting in this production. One main issue was that we did not practice acting before we...

Production Blog: Editing

Image
Hey everyone! I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. This time I'll be discussing the editing process of this commercial. When we had just finished filming, I was at first eager to edit it. Since I have an interest in filmmaking, I know that editing is and essential skill. Originally I had suggested that each of us edit it on our own and we compare them. After this we would either choose the best one, or include aspects of all of them. Ultimately, my teammates decided that we were better off all working together to make one video. Unfortunately, after my teammates had decided when they would edit, I learned that I wouldn't be able to make it. Last minute, my parents told me that I had to attend the 60th wedding anniversary of some family members. While my teammates went to Rhys' house, I had dinner with my family. While I was at dinner Rhys ended up being the one to do most of the editing. We had decided beforehand that this was the best choice because Rh...

Production Blog: Filming

Image
Hey Everyone! I’m Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. We began filming as soon as we had finished planning. Rhys, Daniel, Esteban, and I all met at Snyder park to film. The park was big, so I was a bit lost at first, but eventually we found each other. I brought boxing gloves, Esteban brought another pair of boxing gloves, Rhys brought a camera, and Daniel brought the Prime Hydration. We started by looking at our storyboard and trying to recreate the shots described. We started with Rhys crouching down to take a shot of Esteban’s footwork. We continued with shots of the two training. Throughout this process, I gave tips to Esteban on how he should do his footwork, and helped Rhys find the right angle and zoom on the shots. For the next shot, a high angle, Rhys was not tall enough to reach over Daniel’s head, so I filmed this scene. I had less involvement in the following shots. We continued with a shot of Esteban walking off. For this I suggested we do a jump cut fro...

Planning and Preparation Production Blog

Image
Hey everyone! I’m Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. Our planning and preparation for filming started shortly after we learned what this project was about. I was involved in our group’s planning and preparation. During our planning, the three of us gave input on what to do for our commercial. Ultimately, I agreed with Rhys on his idea to do a boxing commercial. Despite this the three of us were in disagreement on where we would film. Rhys wanted to film in an abandoned building near his house, but I argued that this was a bad idea. Rhys convinced me to at least check it out, so after school on a Friday, the two of us biked to the place he was suggesting. When we arrived, the place was under construction, so Rhys conceded that it wasn’t a good idea to film there. Ultimately, I suggested that we film at a park, and the other two agreed. The next phase in planning and preparation was deciding what props and costumes we would need. For props we decided that aside from the Pr...

Storyboard for my Prime Hydration commercial

Image
First scene: T he fir st scene will be a wide shot showing Subject A and Subject B boxing. The shot will show both characters and the environment around them . The camera will stay relatively still during this scene without any camera movements.     Second scene: T he second scene shows the POV of subject B  over subject A . This is a high angle that shows that subject B is more powerful than subject A .     Third scene: In the third scene, the camera tracks subject A as he angrily and disappointedly rips off his boxing gloves and walks away from where he was boxing.     Fourth scene: This scene will be a medium close-up of Subject A drinking Prime Hydration. This shows Subject A f rom the torso to the top of the head . This scene will also attempt to draw attention to the  Prime logo as he drinks.     Fifth scene: In the fifth scene there is a wide shot that shows su bject A sending subject B flying backwards. Subject...
