AICE MEDIA FINAL TASK - LOST IN THE WIND

Image
I see room for improvement in this final product, but overall, I'm happy with the result. I'm especially happy with how the disappearance scene turned out, as this was a big worry for me. I hope to continue to work on projects like this in the future, even if it's outside of the class.  Music Credit - CO.Ag Music https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcavSftXHgxLBWwLDm_bNvA

Re-Editing Blog: Working From Distance

Image
I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog.  Things have gone rather smoothly with this re-edit. Initially it seemed like editing would be very difficult for Rhys after his injury. I wasn't sure if he would be able to edit in his state. Because of this, I wanted to go to his house to edit, while he directed me on how to do so.  At first, I was concerned, because we had bad weather in the area. I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it to Rhys's house. It turns out I wasn't able to, but things still went fine. To give him advise, pointers, and ideas, I Face-Timed him. For the editing itself, there was nothing I could help him with. Despite this, I was able to tell him where to place titles, and in what order. It had been a while since our first shoot, so Rhys also wasn't sure what order to put the clips in. Helping Rhys was still complicated for me as well. At the time, I had guests at my house, so I had to go back and forth. I would call to check on ...

Re-Shoot Blog: Painstaking Redo

Image
I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog.  This re-shoot was definitely an unpleasant experience. Like I thought, we had to completely restart. This was, of course, a massive setback. The shoot didn't take too long, but it was extremely frustrating doing the same scenes we'd already done all over again. The shoot went pretty similar to how it went last time. We started with the conversation scene inside Daniel's house. We decided it would feel unnatural if the conversation was completely scripted. We decided to come up with a topic, that being ketchup vs. BBQ sauce, and improvise. This did take a couple attempts, but to their credit, the actors did a very good job with the scene. Many of the other scenes went the same with the exception of the camera work. I think I did a much better job with the camerawork, but there is room for improvement. Throughout the indoor shots we also used better lighting. I think with all of this, it should turn out nicely. One wo...

Production Blog: Peer Review

Image
I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog.  We've just spent today having our work peer reviewed. Like we thought, the video definitely needs improving. The one to conduct the peer review was our friend Aiden. We decided on Aiden because he already understood what the video was about. On top of this, he even knew a little bit about what the requirements are for it. Aiden's first reaction was that the camera work seemed a little sloppy. This may have been in large part due to my inexperience filming. I have, however, been practicing moving while filming. It's been tough, but I think I've gotten much better at keeping the camera stable. Aiden also noted that the dialogue felt unnatural in the opening scene. That is something that we should be able to fix with just a little bit of practice. Lighting was also an issue, as in some scenes, it was difficult to see inside the house. This, once again, should be easy to fix. There were a couple more tiny issues, ...

Production Blog: Injury and Editing

Image
I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog.  After finishing filming, it was finally time to edit, but we had an issue. Rhys had been injured. Rhys was out on a bike ride, when he passed over a patch of leaves on a turn. The bike slid out from under him and he fell to the ground. It seems that the injuries were serious, because immediately after he had to go to the hospital. He told us that he broke his wrist and that he wouldn't be able to eat solid food for the next couple weeks. This put a huge damper on our plans. Rhys is often the one to do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to editing. After a day or two we were still unable to meet, and I was getting worried about meeting our deadline. Finally, we decided to meet to edit. Once again, we used DaVinci Resolve to edit our video. Fortunately, the clips we took came together nicely. We were also able to meet the amount of time we needed the video to be. The hardest parts were definitely the titles, and combini...

Production Blog: Our Second Day of Filming

Image
I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog.  Once again we've gotten the chance to film. This time we did not need the friends that had helped us out last time. Before, we had two of Daniel's old friends as actors, because we didn't have enough people by ourselves. One of them, Aiden, is someone I've also known for a long time, but lost contact with until recently. Now, we're working without them, as we already finished the scenes that included them. We may still have to bring them back for reshoots though. On this second day of filming, we filmed the outdoor scenes. For these scenes, I started by filming Daniel getting on his bike, and Rhys getting on his skateboard. I had no way to follow the two without having to run or ride a bike. Unfortunately, this would have made the shots shaky and unstable. Instead, I filmed shots of the two passing by the camera, and of them coming towards the camera. Next, I filmed a wide shot of the two going in different ...
