Production Blog: Our Second Day of Filming
I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. Once again we've gotten the chance to film. This time we did not need the friends that had helped us out last time. Before, we had two of Daniel's old friends as actors, because we didn't have enough people by ourselves. One of them, Aiden, is someone I've also known for a long time, but lost contact with until recently. Now, we're working without them, as we already finished the scenes that included them. We may still have to bring them back for reshoots though. On this second day of filming, we filmed the outdoor scenes. For these scenes, I started by filming Daniel getting on his bike, and Rhys getting on his skateboard. I had no way to follow the two without having to run or ride a bike. Unfortunately, this would have made the shots shaky and unstable. Instead, I filmed shots of the two passing by the camera, and of them coming towards the camera. Next, I filmed a wide shot of the two going in different directions. We picked up by shooting Rhys riding on his own. We needed a way for Rhys to disappear, and I had an idea. I filmed two shots. One shot of Rhys passing the tree on his skateboard, and another of the skateboard passing the tree on its own. In the middle of each clip, the camera is completely obstructed by the, which I think will allow us to combine the first half of the first clip with the second half of the second clip. This would be similar to a vehicle vanish used in movies today. The other two were a little skeptical of this, so we also filmed the disappearance another way, where we would simply cut to another angle with nobody on the skateboard. We filmed the last few shots, and wrapped up for the day. I hope that my plan for the disappearance will work out, because it could be a very interesting scene, but only time will tell.
