Production Blog: Filming
Hey Everyone! I’m Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to my blog. We began filming as soon as we had finished planning. Rhys, Daniel, Esteban, and I all met at Snyder park to film. The park was big, so I was a bit lost at first, but eventually we found each other. I brought boxing gloves, Esteban brought another pair of boxing gloves, Rhys brought a camera, and Daniel brought the Prime Hydration. We started by looking at our storyboard and trying to recreate the shots described. We started with Rhys crouching down to take a shot of Esteban’s footwork. We continued with shots of the two training. Throughout this process, I gave tips to Esteban on how he should do his footwork, and helped Rhys find the right angle and zoom on the shots. For the next shot, a high angle, Rhys was not tall enough to reach over Daniel’s head, so I filmed this scene. I had less involvement in the following shots. We continued with a shot of Esteban walking off. For this I suggested we do a jump cut from the location we were shooting in to a bench. This is where Rhys filmed Esteban drinking a bottle of Prime Hydration. Daniel suggested that the scene show the logo clearly. Unfortunately, at this point there was a wasp that landed on the bench, and even went into my bag. I have a fear of wasps, so this was a major distraction during this part of the filming process. In the next scene, we first had to decide what Daniel’s line would be. We finally agreed upon, “Are you ready to work?” “Yeah.” For the scene itself, Rhys filmed Esteban punching Daniel’s pad and knocking him to the ground. We had to do multiple takes of this until we found the right shot of Daniel’s fall. Throughout the filming process I acted as director, showing the actors what to do, say, and were to be.
