Critical Creative Reflection
Hey Everyone! I'm Luc-Luis Manosalvas, and welcome back to
my blog. Today’s blog is my second ever Creative Critical Reflection (CCR). My
product challenges conventions in several ways. Perhaps the most major of these
is a lack of dancing. Pretty much every music video we found included dancing
of some sort. Unfortunately, of the four of us were all hopeless, none of us knew
how to dance. Instead we chose to do simple fun activities like sports and
video games that would fit well with the upbeat music. This isn’t completely unheard
of, but it does go against what’s usually seen in an upbeat rock music video. When
we made our music video we were not originally thinking about representation of
social groups or issues. Despite this our video does to an extent represent groups
of people who enjoy this genre of music, or even just people who are active and
enjoy doing things like the activities in the video. The song itself can also
represent people who feel repressed with simple phrases like, “Don’t stop me
now!”
Similarly to the groups it represents, our video is mostly
directed toward fans of upbeat music or rock music. The video engages these viewers
with fast paced and continuous clips. We chose not to make any of the clips too
long to keep the audience attentive and engaged. The video would be distributed
as real media text in video form. It would be found on YouTube to accompany the
song.
My production skills once again developed during the making
of this video. First off, I was able to better learn how to use a camera, mainly
because I had more opportunities to film. I also became more adept at preparing
for making a video, as this is the second video I do for this class. Finally, I
learned a little bit about how to edit a video using DaVinci Resolve, which I
wasn’t able to last time.
We used many of the same hardware and software technologies as last time. We made use of a camera, iPhones, laptops, DaVinci Resolve, YouTube, and more. We used our camera and iPhones to film the video. We then used laptops to edit and make production blogs. At the end we edited using DaVinci Resolve, and posted on YouTube so it could be submitted.
